A Taste of Baltimore is back - Santé

A New Year and the flush of charity events begin.  Santé is the Kidney Foundation of Maryland’s annual fundraiser taking place Thursday, February 28 at the Visionary Art Museum, 6-9 pm. An evening filled with food and drink from Baltimore’s top restaurants and caterers.  Adding to the festivities will be celebrity judges, the People’s Choice competition, entertainment, raffles and a silent auction. Admission to this business causal evening is $100/person or $2,500 for a table.  Actually $100 per person for an array of unlimited food, libations and entertainment is pretty much a steal for an evening out……more information and tickets HERE.

I have always supported the Kidney Foundation, in memory of a girlfriend, Peanut Kassel, who was the first live kidney transplant at Johns Hopkins.  Also, my cousin Debby… both, who for long periods were on dialysis and had their lives prolonged with a transplant.  Both are gone now, but I am ever so grateful for the strides the Kidney Foundation has made for patients in the past 40 years since they passed.

Eat, drink and be merry at the  Annual Taste of Pikesville, Wednesday, April 6^th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 pm.  This is the fifth year that the Pikesville Chamber of Commerce has pulled together numerous restaurants who will sample their comestibles and libations for attendees.  Whether you are a Pikesville resident or living in Canton, this is the deal of the month, $40 per person with advanced ticket sales or if you are a procrastinator, it is $45 at the door. Even better, a portion of the proceeds will be going to Meals on Wheels. 

The Taste of Pikesville will be held at the Double Tree by Hilton Pikesville, just off 695. There is plenty of free parking, easy access off Reisterstown Road at the beltway and again, only $40 per person.

Four Chefs and a Pairing: Fundraiser of the month

If anyone knows how to throw a party, caterers and event planners do!  On Monday, March 21^st the Baltimore Chapter of NACE (National Association of Catering and Event Professionals) will have their annual party and fundraiser at the Grand Baltimore benefitting Moveable Feast.  Enjoy a Grand cocktail hour, and then stroll through FOUR ballrooms with cooking demonstrations with 4 Celebrity Chefs.  Each chef will prepare a dish while you watch and learn.   And each dish is paired with a refreshing libation.

Annual Signature Chefs Auction for March of Dimes

 Don’t just mark your calendar; buy your ticket now to the annual March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction which is being held, Monday, November 2^nd starting at 6 p.m. at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel.  

This is my November pick for the charity event to be seen and do good all for the same “dime.” We baby boomers remember our March of Dimes savings cards, we would put a dime in each week and when full send them in to help with children with polio. Now the charity is about a fighting chance for every baby – their focus is on researching the problems that threaten our children and finding both treatment and prevention for them.

Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland’s 22nd annual culinary extravaganza

My May pick for a culinary charity event is Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland’s 22nd annual culinary extravaganza. Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland enable homebound seniors and disabled individuals to eat “well” and remain in their own homes. It is hard for me to fathom in this day and age, when food is in abundance that people are not eating due to lack of funds, age and disability.

Mark your calendar for Monday, May 19th to attend the “Around the World” themed wine and dine culinary extravaganza at the Grand Lodge Hunt Valley starting at 5:30 p.m.
