New flavored white teas from The Republic of Tea

Personally, I don’t drink coffee. I used to drink colas, regular then on to diet but we know that they aren’t good for you for numerous reasons.  I’ve always liked tea, but in the past 12 years tea has really been my beverage of choice; black, red, green, oolong, hibiscus,  herbal – I like them all, even the delicate authentic white teas from China. Low in caffeine, the tender white buds are “hand-picked” just two days a year.  Since the white tea is the least processed of the teas it offers up more polyphenols, or in other words antioxidants.

At the Summer Fancy Food Show I had an advanced taste of two of the new The Republic of Tea selections on their white tea blends: Honey Mango and Cucumber Mint.  The show had me on food and flavor overload, so the kind folks of  The Republic Tea recently sent canisters of these two white teas to brew.

Summer International Fancy Food Show sets trends for your table

It was just the beginning of July when the 2013 Summer International Fancy Food Show was held in New York City’s Jacob Javits Center. The show was the largest in their history, with 2400 plus specialty food and beverage exhibitors from the United States and around the world with first time exhibitors from Bulgaria, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Switzerland. Italy had the largest international presence, followed by Turkey, France and Spain.

Over the years, the way the nation wants or needs to eat becomes prominent, usually starting in the restaurants, specialty stores and on line. The ever changing landscape of educated consumers, wanting to know the who, what, where, why and when of the foods and products that impact their lives and their families.Non- GMO verified seems to be in the forefront.  Ten years ago, certified organic food was the nation’s cry, seven years ago gluten-free became prominent and this year

Dining Examiner’s pick of the week – five course tea dinner at Teavolve Café -

This is the first “tea” dinner I’ve seen in Baltimore and it is exciting. There are beer, wine, bourbon, tequila dinners but this is tea - way to go Teavolve. There are so many subtleties to tea and how they can be enjoyed on their own or paired with food. And it is, as I like to say, “cost effective,” five courses created by Chef Trinity for $35. That is five courses plus your paired cup of tea from the Café’s extensive loose leaf tea menu. (tax and gratuity not included) – what a steal!
