Nine year old Baltimorean competes on Food Network’s Chopped
What a surprise I just got from my friend Daniel Waldman, he
just posted to watch his daughter
Amandine on the Food Network’s Chopped
Junior, Tuesday, September 6th at 8pm ET/PT. Things started to make
sense to me – I had mentored Amandine back in March on knife skills, taste and
flavor just thinking she wanted to learn more about cooking, she loves to cook
with her dad. But I digress.
Daniel just explained what he could, which is very limited until
the show airs. He said Amandine; his
perky, petite powerhouse of a nine year old wanted to compete on Chopped Junior, and what parent can deny their child an opportunity--- so they
let her apply.

Part 5 of 5 series on hands-on cooking classes in Baltimore: Baltimore Chef Shop
New to Baltimore but not new as a culinary instructor, Chef Scott Ryan has recently opened the Baltimore Chef Shop cooking school in Hampden. Chef Ryan has been a culinary instructor since graduating the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts in Massachusetts well over 10 years ago. During the Dim Sum class that I attended, the chef and I shared a moment fondly reminiscing about a common acquaintance, the founder of the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, Roberta Dowling who recently passed away.
Chef Ryan has taught the culinary arts in multiple cities while moving about the country supporting his wife’s career. They have set down roots in Baltimore and truly focused on his career as a culinary instructor. Initially, the classes were held in his house until his school recently opened on ‘the Avenue’ in Hampden.

Hot new Happiest Little Baker creating memories for children and adults alike
Who can’t
recall those moments in the kitchen with your mom, dad, meemaw or bubbie – one-on-one,
laughing and smiling?
Loving this
new company called Happiest Little Baker; I call it memories in a box. The gist is a subscription, though you can
buy just one, pre-measured baking kits that are geared to children baking with
an adult. Happiest Little Baker’s founder, Lindsey Maurath wanted to translate
her happy memories of baking with her mother and grandmother into fond memories
for others.
