Ramone has left the building: Ethel’s Creole Kitchen is now open

Mt. Washington Ethel & Ramone's is gone, closed when its partners Chef Ed Bloom and Jeff Berkow bought the building this past summer, home to the restaurant since 1994. The goal, to create a larger space; open kitchen, veranda, balcony seating, bar, larger dining rooms, event seating and most of all, being true to their “Maryland Creole” cuisine.

4th Annual Decanter: Horses, wine, music and art

Come to ole Pimlico Race Course for a day of live turf and dirt horse racing for The Maryland Jockey Club and Maryland Wineries Association'S 4^th annual Decanter event. Don your fanciest chapeau, put on your finest spring frocks and bring  gelt for betting.  It is this weekend, April 12-13 at the Pimlico Race Course -5201 Park Heights Avenue from 12 pm- 6 pm both days.  The event allows guests to sample wine from over 20 Maryland wineries, browse wine and equine focused art and crafts, listen to live music, dine on local fare and experience live horse racing from the prestigious 2^nd Floor Grandstand area.

The 2014 Stars of the Restaurant Industry Awards Are Announced!

After 25,000 votes, the Restaurant Association of Maryland announced the winners of the 60^th Annual McCormick & Company Stars of the Industry Awards. The Gala Celebration and Awards presentation took place at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge, Maryland.  Over twenty-five thousand members of Maryland’s dining public voted for their favorite Maryland restaurants and industry professionals.

Who is AK Stout and why did I have lunch with her?

 

Don’t let me being a senior fool you; I’m all over the social media thing. You can find me on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Pinterest, Blogger plus a couple other sites.  It seems everywhere I turn in Social Media lately I see the name AK Stout (@akstout18) giving excellent advice on the latest trends and tribulations in social media. A Towson/Timonium gal, I like her style, the way she explains everything in an easy to understand format and wanted to meet her. What better way, than over food. AK was game; I guess a free lunch with me isn’t so terrible.  She picked one of her favorite restaurants, McFaul’s Ironhorse Tavern out on Cromwell Bridge Road by Loch Raven Reservoir for our tête-à-tête.

Wit on the Water is back: Come to the party

I just might be biased being a Baltimorean but I love our harbor view. Probably one of the best is from the Four Season’s Wit and Wisdom Tavern, especially at night as the colored lights and the sunset reflect on the water, a view not to be missed. Even better is their al fresco bar and dining, Wit on the Water.  

To formally kick off this season’s reopening of Wit on the Water, Wit & Wisdom will host a launch event with Audi Hunt Valley to unveil the new 2015 Audi A3, a compact car breaking ground in its class. This one-time event on Wednesday, April 9, beginning at 4 p.m. will feature live music, light fare, a photo booth and an exclusive chance to preview the new A3 model.

Hops versus Grapes: You decide the winner

Spring has sprung, well maybe not sprung but crawled in, lame from the insane weather fluctuations we are having in Baltimore and around the country.  It is now the time of year when restaurant events start filling up our calendars. Here is just one worth mentioning.

Birroteca in the Woodberry/Hampden neighborhood has put together a wine and beer tasting dinner on April 9^th at 7 p.m.to 9 p.m.  Union Craft Brewing plus Airfield Estates plus Lone Birch Wine present this dinner.
